Burglars in UK using FB, Twitter to target victims
A majority of burglars in Britain use social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter to target their victims, a survey has revealed. As many users post updates on social networking sites, thieves not only get information about recent high-value purchases, but also the dates and times when they are out. Other websites, such as Google Street View, show photographs of individual houses from which the would-be burglars can gauge security and ease of access by looking for alarms and side entrances, the Telegraph reports. The study was based on the answers of offenders who were convicted of burglary this year. Four out of five of the criminals said burglars were using social media websites. But they also said that a simple home alarm would have deterred them from targeting the property in the first place. One of the convicted burglars interviewed said that 'people are now taking advantage of social media to access information about would-be victims.' "We're living in the age of the digital criminal and people are taking advantage of social media to access information about would-be victims," Taylor said. "We'll tell them even when we're going away on holidays. We will let them know that we're not in. We're inviting them round to our house," he added. The survey also revealed that a thief steals an average of 487 pounds from a home on a single visit. |
Kim Kardashian named most annoying celebrity
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has been named the 'Most Annoying Celebrity' in a new poll. Kardashian, 30, scored 29 percent of the readers' vote - two percent more than Charlie Sheen, thus beating Sheen and Jersey Shore regular Snooki to land at the top of the new Parade list, which makes up part of the publication's Pop Culture Poll. Lindsay Lohan and Donald Trump also made into the list, Contactmusic reported. In other related surveys, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon landed on top of the Craziest Baby Names list after giving their twins the monikers Monroe and Moroccan. Also, actress Emma Watson was named the Most Likely to Succeed from 'Harry Potter'. While, Ryan Reynolds topped the vote for The Royal Sister's Suitor - 22 per cent of readers thought he would make the perfect boyfriend for the Duchess of Cambridge's sister Pippa Middleton, Jake Gyllenhaal and Leonardo DiCaprio tied for second place with 18 percent. |
Google's ‘Is your son gay?’ app irks gays
Popular search engine Google has landed in a soup after launching a smartphone app that helps parents determine their son's sexuality. The Android program 'Is Your Son Gay?' has recently hit the market and has outraged gay-rights groups, with one brandishing the app 'ridiculous and horrifying'. The controversial app asks parents 20 questions, including 'does he like to dress well?', 'does he like football?', 'does he like musical comedies?' and 'does he like Madonna?' to help them discover the sexuality of their son. Once the quiz is completed parents receive one of two answers- 'You have nothing to worry about, your son is not gay.' Or it informs parents: 'Your son is gay. Accept it and know it's not his choice.' Meanwhile, the French developer of the app insisted that the concept was meant to be a humorous approach towards helping moms accept their sons' homosexuality. However, Eliza Byard, executive director of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Educational Network in the U.S., has denounced the app. "The questions in this app are horrendous stereotypes that would be completely laughable if they weren't so dangerous," the Daily Mail quoted her as telling CBS New York. "The implication, one, is that there is one way to be if you're gay and, two, that there's sort of blame to attach to parents," she added. |
Arnold Orders 3 Bronze Statues Of Himself!
The former governor of California has commissioned a series of statues of himself to remind the world how he looked in his muscle-bound prime. The 64-year-old has requested the creation of at least three larger-than-life bronze creations which will stand 8ft tall and weigh 580lbs. They will be based on a smaller sculpture created in 1980, the year Schwarzenegger won his seventh Mr Olympia title. The statues all depict him in a classic body-builder pose and have been super-sized to 'heroic' scale, which is one-and-a-quarter times life size. The first of them will be shipped to a museum dedicated to Schwarzenegger's life at his childhood home in Thal, Austria. A second will be sent to Columbus, Ohio, where the Schwarzenegger-inspired Arnold Fitness Weekend is held annually. Schwarzenegger himself will keep the third one but he has discussed the possibility of commissioning four more, said Tim Parks, the owner of Oregon-based TW Bronze, which is making the statues. |

The starting bid for the ring is reported to start at 300,000 dollars, Contactmusic reported. Initially the 'Profiles in History' auctioneers had decided to highlight the Icons of Hollywood sale with the ruby slippers, which Judy Garland wore in 'The Wizard of Oz', but now they have gone ahead with more than they had earlier planned. A naked painting of the tragic movie icon when she was young by Earl Moran in the 1940s has also been added to the celebrity memorabilia auction cart, bids for which are set to start at 70,000 dollars. |

All work and no play for Salman
Salman's five-day schedule in the city is too packed to include even his last film's success party Salman Khan is back in town after over a month and not surprisingly, his schedule is chock-o-block. The actor was first in the US to treat his nerve disorder and then in Dublin to shoot for a film. He now has just five days to finish all his work in Mumbai before he flies out of the country again. Unfortunately, this leaves him with little time to party. He will not even be able to celebrate the success of Bodyguard. Postponed Now, The actor's brother-in-law, also the producer of the film, Atul Agnihotri confirms that the movie's success party has been postponed. A source further adds, "Atul had put the bash on hold until Salman's return. But, now with the actor's jam-packed schedule, there's no time for a party. Besides, Salman has to be in topnotch shape when he returns to Dublin on October 2 to shoot for Ek Tha Tiger. He will be shooting some complicated action sequences there. It's a super-hectic week ahead for Sallu in spite of the doctor's advice that the star take it easy after his surgery." Important meeting Besides shooting for the reality show he is hosting along with actor and pal Sanjay Dutt, the actor also has another important meeting planned with filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala. "Salman is moved by Sajid's decision to prepone Housefull 2 to April 3 so that it doesn't clash with his next movie to be directed by Kabir Khan, which is scheduled to release on June 1. Sajid and Salman are meeting in a day or two, " explains the source. Meanwhile, the action team is gearing up for the tough sequences to be shot once Salman returns to Dublin. The production house's spokesperson adds, "The shooting in Dublin is still on with Katrina (while Salman is here in Mumbai). And then the action team will prepare before we start shooting with him from October 4." Courtesy: Mid-Day.com |
Here's a dekho: Colourful and compact 'Bigg Boss 5' house to have common baths
Actor Sanjay Dutt, who is ready for his television debut with "Bigg Boss 5" that goes on air Sunday, says Salman Khan, his co-host on the reality show, is like a younger brother to him. "He (Salman) is like a younger brother to me and we have done a couple of movies together and you can see the Big Boss promos. There is so much of chemistry. So it will be fun, " said Sanjay. This is their first small screen venture, but the two actors teamed for movies like "Saajan" and "Chal Mere Bhai". But for his new innings, 52-year-old Sanjay is happy to have Salman's company. "It's a new thing for me to go on television, but I am happy that Salman is with me.That will really help me a lot, " he said. The on-screen promos of the show have been promising and reveal how the duo would create double trouble for the contestants, who will be locked in a house for three months and be under 24-hour camera surveillance. The official list of participants for the season is yet to be unveiled. 'Bigg Boss 5' house to have common baths Here's a dekho of the house of a forthcoming reality show hosted by Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. The "Bigg Boss 5" house is bright and nice thanks to a riot of colours - green, fuschia, yellow and more - and, due to its compact and transparent design, it is expected to spark riots among the 14 contestants participating in the Colors' reality show. The design by interior designer Shayam Bhatia is intentional, reveals Ashwini Yardi, programming head, Colors. "We have made the house more compact this time around, so that people are more in each other's face," Yardi told reporters. For 100 days, the contestants will be locked inside the 9,000 square feet house, which has been moved from the busy markets of Lonavala to the lush plains of Karjat. As many as 55 cameras have been placed inside the house to pry upon their activities 24x7. The official list of participants is yet to be unveiled. However, names like Nihita Biswas, the Nepali wife of alleged murderer Charles Sobhraj, actress Pooja Bedi, TV actress Parul Chauhan, and even international boxing champion Mike Tyson are expected to be on the show. From the design of the house, one can imagine that the tolerance level of the contestants will be tested to the hilt. Since the house is smaller as compared to previous seasons of the show, it barely leaves space for any housemate for privacy. The jail, where indisciplined contestants can be locked, makes a comeback this season, and the much-used kitchen sink has been placed in the garden area to cause more inconvenience and create fiction between the participants. The house also has a lot of glass, due to which one can view the entire expanse -- from the entry of the house to the bedroom all in one go, including the outdoor and living section of the house. The two separate bedrooms, in shades of green and fuchsia with a hint of white, brown and yellow, have no differentiation for the sexes. Maintaining tradition since last year, there's a special bedroom for the head-of-house, who will get some luxuries and special privileges. The open kitchen is connected with a dining room that extends to the garden area, and the outdoor area has gained more prominence with the pool area, the activity area, the gymnasium and the kitchen sink being placed there. The house has a common washroom, as well as a common bath for male and female contestants. The confession room, where the contestants get a chance to interact with the "Bigg Boss", is done in shades of royal green. |
Zarine wants to do more item songs but sans vulgarity
Zarine Khan, who once weighed 100 kg, shed her weight to make a mark in the entertainment industry but she doesn't believe in crash diets and prefers balanced eating habits. "I am blessed with very beautiful parents. Thanks to them that genetically I have got such a clear and nourished skin, " said the one-film-old actress who was here Thursday to launch the VLCC Daily Protect Anti- Pollution range. "But no doubt pollution and excessive exposure to heat and make-up affect the skin and makes it dull. So, it is important to take care of it - like body treatments, even skin care is important. "I always endorse balanced diet. I don't believe in crash diets. One should eat healthy and in the right proportion, " she added. Zarine Khan is also open to doing more item songs but sans vulgarity. She teamed up with Salman Khan in the item song "Character Dheela". "I was offered a lot of item numbers but I wasn't really comfortable. 'Character Dheela' I would not call an item number because it was a fun song and I had Salman in it along with me. I knew nothing would go wrong, " Zarine, who was here for the launch of skin care products, told. "I am open to such songs where there is no vulgarity or sleaziness, " she added. The 23-year-old, who made her Bollywood debut with the 2010 film "Veer", is busy with new projects. "The first schedule of "Housefull 2" has been completed and now we are gearing up for the next schedule, which will start from next month. I am also doing a Tamil film titled 'Karikalan' with Vikram." |
No Sex and No Alcohol: Prateik takes a celibacy vow!
Actor has take vow for two whole weeks, till the release of his next film 'My Friend Pinto' People do a lot to make sure their film gets a good opening at the box-office. But what Prateik's aiming to do would take the cake, hands down. The actor has taken a vow to stay off sex and alcohol, hold your breath, for two whole weeks! That is, till the release of his film My Friend Pinto. While we think it's hardly a long enough period for a serious vow, the actor argues, "People go to all kind of lengths to make sure their film does well. Some visit religious places to seek blessings, while some take a vow of giving up certain things. I have decided to go celibate!" It certainly seems like a big deal for the newbie, considering reports about his blooming love life have been making the rounds for quite sometime now. It was recently reported that the actor is dating his next co-star, British model and actress Amy Jackson. Though we're not sure whether he consulted her (or for that matter any other prospective girlfriends) before taking this call, it seems like he is dead serious about sticking to this resolution. Adds a source, "This is Prateik's first solo release and obviously there is a lot of anticipation. He is quite nervous and so is doing everything possible to make sure people go and watch it." Recently, he ditched desserts to get in shape, then alcohol and now sex. Prateik adds, "I am 24 and it's my test and I am sure I will pass it!" What can we say, there's surely no way of checking if he's 'cheating'. Courtesy: Mid-Day.com |
Revealed: How Katrina finally agreed to be the girl-in-a-bikini
Many names, including top international ones, were considered for the coveted role of the screen queen opposite bad-boy Aamir Khan in Dhoom 3. Finally it's Katrina Kaif, after all, who has bagged the prized part. Katrina, it must be remembered, was Yashraj, Aditya Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya's first choice for the part. But the actress, hellbent on building on her wholesome image, had major misgivings about some of the things that the role required from her. There was the mandatory girl-in-a-bikini Dhoom shot. With her new policy of no kissing and no exposure Katrina begged off the role. Says a very reliable source, "Katrina very clearly told her dear friend Aditya Chopra that she would not be comfortable doing some of the scenes. Aditya told her she was crazy to turn down the chance of playing the Dhoom girl, and that too opposite Aamir Khan but Katrina is very clear about what she wants and doesn't want to do on screen. And nothing could make her change her that. She suggested they look for someone else. " The hunt for Aamir's Dhoom girl even went international with hot global faces being considered. Incidentally a couple of A-list actresses got their publicity machinery to plant stories of being chosen for Dhoom 3. Says a source, "But the first choice, namely Katrina kept coming back to haunt the banner's casting aspirations. They needed a girl who not only looked hot but also could look extremely homely and wholesome. A combination of Hema Malini and Zeenat Aman, that was the brief. " Two factors made Katrina change her mind. The first was Aamir Khan. Having bagged a role with Shah Rukh Khan in Yash Chopra's next she was keen to be paired with Aamir. And so, we believe, was Aamir. Finally there was a long and intense meeting between Katrina and Aditya Chopra just before she left for the shooting of Ek Tha Tiger in Dublin that clinched the matter. Both Katrina and Adi were in high spirits after the success of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. Says a source, "Someone said Katrina was Yashraj's lucky mascot. To this she quipped, 'I really don't like being called a lucky mascot. It makes me sound like a ghodi at the derby. 'Everyone including Katrina was in the mood to see Katrina say yes to Dhoom 3. " Apparently in the meeting Aditya convinced Katrina as to why doing Dhoom 3 at this stage of her career would take her to another level. They spoke about the packaging and the projection. And they also spoke about the scenes that bothered Katrina. Apparently the kissing and bikini scenes have been taken care of. Says a source, "The scenes that scared Katrina have not been done away with entirely. But Adi and Katrina met on a middlepath. The scenes have been now modified to the advantage of both the parties. " With Dhoom 3 Katrina Kaif becomes the only heroine in the history of Indian cinema to do 4 back-to-back films with the Yashraj banner. Katrina remained unavailable for comment. Apparently she is using the off-shooting hours in Dublin to get fighting-fit for Dhoom 3. Martial arts and samurai sword-fighting are part of the training for the part. Go ahead Katrina. A secret wedding for Sandra Bullock?
Sandra Bullock is reportedly considering a secret low-key wedding with beau Ryan Reynolds following a successful vacation in Wyoming. Bullock, 47, is believed to have discussed the idea of marriage with Reynolds, 34, after he bonded with her 20-month-old son Louis. Reynolds split from actress Scarlett Johansson after two years of marriage in December 2010. "Ryan told her he was ready to tie the knot whenever she wants. And after seeing how quickly she's bonded with baby Louis, she decided she's ready to pull the trigger, too," Contactmusic quoted a source as telling America's Star magazine. "So they started discussing the logistics of pulling off a low-key, barefoot wedding that would reflect their laid-back lifestyle," the source added. Johansson, 26, who was briefly linked to Sean Penn following her divorce from Reynolds, is reported to be happy for the pair. "Since Scarlett likes and respects Sandra so much, it doesn't bother her that she's with Ryan now," the source said. |
Dirty Picture: A dead sex symbol, abundant cleavage and some dirty dancing
Though scheduled to release only in December, the promos of Dirty Picture, flush with cheesecake pin-ups of Vidya Balan, are already on to build up interest. How can a film that calls itself 'Dirty Picture' be a tribute to a famous actress whose life ended in tragedy? Shoma A. Chatterji questions Do filmmakers have a moral responsibility towards their audience and even, to their country? Think about films that are most likely never to be screened in India getting past the tough Censor Board like Chhatrak (Mushroom), Sri Lankan filmmaker Vimukthi Jayasundara's Bengali film, with nude scenes by the lead pair. Vimukthi is one of the most talented filmmakers in Sri Lanka today. Or take Q's Gandu that has won awards at international film festival circuit. He won the Best Director and Jury Prize Awards for Gandu at the 2010 South Asian International Film Festival in New York recently. Some sections of the people question whether these films are solely made with an eye at the foreign audience, or help augment a skewered image of the country. Bengali actress Paoli Dam who has done an intimate love scene in the buff in Chhatrak (Mushroom) has gone to town about the episode. She has recently been signed by Vikram Bhatt for his new film Hate Story. "Nobody from Bollywood or Tollywood has done anything like this and I had no frame of reference to work from. I did not know how to prepare for the scene, " says the dusky and sensuous Paoli. She goes on to say that she spent a lot of time with the director Vimukthi. "We discussed the film as a whole and then zeroed in on the intimate scenes. It is a political comment which goes much beyond the oral sex portrayed in it. I have complete faith in my director and that is why I did it, " she adds. The film is making rounds of international film festivals beginning with Cannes this year. Vidya Balan is quite at ease about portraying Silk Smitha, the item dance girl who helped the box office coffers of many Southern films jingle with her oomph though with a body far removed from today's fashionable 'zero' figure. In fact, she would be considered obese by today's standards. She was extremely popular in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam cinema, but her films were often being classified as soft porn. But naming a film purportedly on her life as a celebration of her contribution to regional cinema "Dirty" Picture would not exactly qualify as a 'tribute', would it? On the morning of September 23, 1996, Smitha, uncrowned queen of glamour on the South Indian screen, was found dead in her home in Saligramam, Chennai's tinsel town, hanging from the ceiling fan in her bedroom. She was only 36. She acted in around 500 films and charged as high as Rs.50, 000 per dance number in her time. But her success also turned into her biggest defeat because she got into relationships that ended disastrously and became dependent on alcohol. The end came when her first production venture reportedly washed out her bank balance. One has no idea whether Dirty Picture will portray this story, include her death or turn her into a survivor. Ekta Kapoor, producer of the film, tagged the film as a fictitious life story of Silk Smitha but she could easily have allowed the film to stand on its own. One wonders how director Milan Luthra is tackling the relationships Silk Smitha had with the men in her life. A dead sex symbol throws up every scope for sensationalising a tragedy and using titillation abundantly. The name Dirty Picture rankles especially because Silk Smitha is not around to defend the privacy she is entitled to. In an interview last year, Ekta Kapoor said, "I've been waiting for almost two years for the script to be ready. Now my writer Rajat Arora has finally put the finishing touches to the story of a woman who defied all conventions to become a sensation in the South but eventually committed suicide. This will be my most exhilarating and powerful production ever. It's about women's empowerment and the loneliness behind stardom." Really? The pin-ups of Vidya Balan who has put on weight for a abundant cleavage spell a different tale. And talking about 'women's empowerment' Ekta Kapoor began the trend of the regressive woman via the Saas-Bahu serials. Questions may also arise as to whether Indian films should portray scenes of intimacy which are privy only to foreign audiences and NRI viewers. Ranabir Lahiri, professor, Bijoygarh College, Kolkata, wrote in an article that representation of female sexuality "operates not merely outside the pale of socially sanctioned ties but is radically freed from all taboos that control the female body and its desires." They do exist within the cultural matrix of women's representation in India but not as abundantly as women devoted to their maternal and domestic duties are. None of these films are 'dirty' in the common understanding of the word. But the international audience and some sections of the Indian audience might read them differently as 'dirty'. They are the filmmakers' choice for expressing their aesthetics, their politics and their social convictions through their language – cinema. |

Bollywood's biggest names do not want to look like themselves
Why do Bollywood's biggest names not want to look like themselves? Other than the fact that there's something endearing about Naseeruddin Shah, even when he plays, by his own admission, a lusty old goat, the thing that makes you click 'replay' on The Dirty Picture trailer link on YouTube, is actress Vidya Balan's makeover. Balan is not your average glamorous heroine. She has a knack of getting her wardrobe, on screen and off it, wrong, and has had some trouble carrying off western outfits in the past. That was until she discovered Kolkata's decadent designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who draped her in mulmul sarees and three-fourth sleeve retro blouses, coin-sized tikas and jhumkas to add, making her the quintessential classic Indian beauty. Puts on kilos and pulls off clothes in Milan Luthria's The Dirty Picture, while a moustache-sporting Shahid Kapoor grows up in Mausam. Vidya Balan For the Milan Luthria-directed The Dirty Picture, an Ekta Kapoor production slated for a December 2 release, Balan was convinced to put on a few kilos and drop the handspun pallu in favour of nylon polka-dotted, front-knotted blouses that left little to the imagination. Costume director Nikarika Khan's reference was the late South Indian sex siren Silk Smitha (on whose life the film is based) and a bevy of Chennai item girls. Ranbir Kapoor Plays Jordan in Rockstar Highlights: Shoulder-length hair, drawn cheeks, stubble and head wrapped in a scarf. Grunge is the word "Vidya has this image of being pure. For her to say, 'Do what you want to. I trust you, ' is unbelievable. There is a scene in the film where I have got her to slit open her blouse right down to her stomach, " says Khan, who played a key role in freezing Balan's look. Shah Rukh Khan Plays Don in Don 2 Highlights: Matted locks worn in a ponytail, stubble and moustache, 'D' tattoo on forearm And there's something convincing about the actress, as she heaves her floral choli lined-bosom in Naseeruddin Shah's face to the beat of Ooh la la ooh la la, tu hai meri fantasy, while lemons rush down a hill behind her. This isn't the story of Balan, and her conviction, alone. In a complete turnover of attitude, the Hindi film industry's most successful stars are edging away from safe territory while picking challenging roles that are not often pristine, transforming their appearance in a bid to get under their character's skin. Shah Rukh Khan Plays superhero G.One in RA.One Highlights: Spiked hair, clean shaven-elastic make-up, rubber superhero suit Everyone's favourite little boy Shahid Kapoor grows up in next week's release, Mausam, while playing Virendra Singh, an Air Force pilot, with a crisp moustache and a smart crew cut. Sanjay Dutt has run a razor over his head, shedding his blonde locks for a clean pate as Kancha Cheena, the villain in Karan Johar's remake of the 1990 film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Agneepath. Recent trailers finally revealed Ranbir Kapoor's grungy, stubbled look as Jordan in Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar, while John Abraham took the six-pack trend to another level in Force, with producer Vipul Shah calling him "96 kilos of pure muscle". Sanjay Dutt Plays Kancha Cheena in Agneepath Highlights: Bald head, silver piercing, tattooed arms Kunal Kohli's untitled project starring Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor brings back the retro look rooted in the 1960s, and it is just one of the three looks in the film that's said to span three eras. Both of superstar Shah Rukh Khan's forthcoming releases, Don 2 and RA.One, required that he look un-SRK like. While he grew his hair long to tie it into a dishevelled ponytail in Don 2, as RA.One's superhero G.One, he sports blue lenses to match his ink blue rubber suit. Shilpa Shetty Plays Gautami in The Desire Highlights: Bald head, minimal make-up And it's not just the wonders of make-up artists at work here. Some actors are taking the trouble to make it as real as it can get. After showing off six-pack abs in Murder 2, actor Emraan Hashmi packed in fatty foods and starch to grow a paunch for Dibakar Banerjee's Shanghai. "I put on some weight to make it look authentic, " he says. Glamour doll Shilpa Shetty, who is as proud of her tousled mane as she is of her surfboard tummy, went through a four-hour prosthetic routine everyday for the climax of The Desire, a film produced by her mother Sunanda Shetty. "Audiences have to see the effort. If they see the same old Shilpa Shetty in every film, they will be bored, " she admits with utmost candour. Courtesy: Mid-Day.com |
Ranbir, Prateik patch up on flight
Bond on a flight back to Mumbai putting rest to rumours of a problem between the two on account of 'My Friend Pinto' He may be a newcomer in Bollywood, but Prateik has his own way of playing the game. The actor, it appears, has decided not to get sucked into any kind of industry politics, even if it means slighting a prominent filmmaker like Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Friendship in air On a recent flight back from Delhi, where the actor was promoting his My Friend Pinto, he bumped into Ranbir Kapoor. The latter was returning from a promotional event of his upcoming Rockstar. Given that the Kapoor lad had turned down Bhansali's offer to star in MFP due to some past professional differences, leading to a cold war of sorts between the two, one expected both the young stars to ignore each other. However, to everyone's surprise, just the opposite happened. Says a fellow passenger, "Ranbir and Prateik seemed very comfortable and relaxed in each other's company. They were strumming a guitar, singing and exchanging notes on music at the airport. When we boarded the flight, since their seats were away from each other, they requested their co-passengers to switch places so that they could sit next to each other. Kiran Rao (who also happened to be on the same flight) also joined them. All three of them were happily chatting away. They seemed to be having a lot of fun together." We wonder if this is the beginning of a new friendship in Bollywood. Guess only time will tell... Courtesy: Mid-Day.com |
Marriage on the rocks. Manisha wants to be left alone
Manisha Koirala confirms she is still in Nepal, but is evasive on the status of her troubled marriage A few months ago, the grapevine was abuzz with rumours of Manisha Koirala's marriage being on the rocks. That she was heading back to Mumbai, as she could not adjust to the life of domesticity with her businessman husband Samrat Dahal. She, however, confirms, "I am very much in Nepal. But I will not talk about my personal life. At the moment, all my friends know I need to be left alone. I don't need to give explanations about what's going on in my life." Interestingly, a close pal reveals, "Manisha has had to struggle against all odds to make the marriage work. She has had to adjust not only to a life of domesticity, but also to her husband's entire family and their traditional way of life. At one point, she almost gave up and decided to return to India, but now she wants to give her marriage one last shot." Film offers Rumours of her return to Bollywood were sparked off when prominent filmmakers received text messages from her secretary informing them that she's open to acting offers. "If I get a damn good project I'd be interested anytime. In fact, I'm on the verge of accepting good offers. I'll talk about it only after they materialise," she says. As for relocating to India, the actress says, "I travel to Mumbai because I've a home there. I was there recently for just two days." Courtesy: Mid-Day.com |
Sunny comes to Esha's rescue
Sunny Deol to promote sibling Esha Deol's 'Tell Me O Kkhuda', proving yet again why family comes first in Bollywood There's no better example than Bollywood to prove that blood is indeed thicker than water. To say that the film industry is one big fat happy family wouldn't be an overstatement. Time and again, there have been stories about stars being rescued and re-rescued by their more successful family members. Here's yet another instance. Sunny Deol is going all out to ensure that his half sister Esha Deol resurrects her acting career successfully with her mum Hema Malini's home production Tell Me O Kkhuda. Hema Malini confirms, "We are all part of the same family; everything that needs to be done to promote the film will be done. I don't think there is anything new or surprising in it." The relationship between Dharmendra's two families has surprisingly been good till date, given the circumstances. In fact, recently when news about Sunny doing a television show broke, Hema went on record to say he would be a great host. A source says, "The Deols' film Yamla Pagla Deewana has done well. With Dharamendra and Sunny doing television shows, they have managed to garner a lot of attention in the past one year. So Dharamji thought it would be best if Sunny is involved in the publicity of his daughter's film." Interestingly, Sunny, Hema and Dharamendra have personally been supervising the marketing plan of the movie. Deol junior has apparently even hired a top-notch marketing executive. "The plan is to get Sunny and Dharamji to be the face of the campaign and travel with Hema and Esha during their promotional tours. The film has been facing too many roadblocks for a long time now and clearly they do not want to leave any stone unturned to push this film," adds the source. And the nominees for Family Number One are... Salman - Arbaaz - Sohail Khan Since the very beginning, Salman the only superstar in the Khan family has been doing everything to boost his brothers' careers. Salman starred in his directorial debut Auzaar, which tanked. They followed it up with Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya that turned out to be a hit. Of course, Arbaaz Khan was almost written off as an actor before his debut production Dabangg happened, thanks to Salman bhai. Now with Dabangg 2, Arbaaz is being deemed as one of Bollywood's biggest producers. And how can he forget his darling sister Alvira. When her husband Atul Agnihotri's career was going nowhere with directorial superflops like Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha and Hello, Salman gifts him Bodyguard, which has now broken records in more ways than one. Aamir - Imran - Faisal Khan We all saw and learnt from Aamir Khan when he first launched nephew Imran in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na in 2008. Imran was pitched as the cute boy-next-door, just like Aamir was when he made his debut in 1998. Jaane Tu... was a hit and Imran was deemed as the next big thing. But then came Kidnap and Luck. Post that, he had to seek mamujaan's help yet again. Apparently, Aamir sat on Delhi Belly for months before clearing the edit and now it has become Imran's career best. Buzz is that uncle and nephew will star together in a film soon. Aamir also made sure his brother Faisal got a bigger and better role in Mela, but we all know what happened to the film and Faisal post the release. Shilpa - Shamita Shetty Shamita Shetty could never really match up to what sister Shilpa had achieved in Bollywood. Yet, Shilpa made sure her sister got noticed and bagged roles whenever possible. Apparently, it was Shilpa who got Shamita a role in Anubhav Sinha's Dus, when no one really was keen on signing her. And, of course, after Shilpa's Bigg Brother win in the UK, we saw Shamita enter the Bigg Boss house in India, which Shilpa ended up hosting. Yash - Aditya - Uday Chopra Father Yash Chopra and brother Aditya Chopra tried every trick in the book to get Uday Chopra's Bollywood career shining. In fact, Uday has his dad and brother to thank for the only role he will ever be remembered for, which is tapori Ali in the Dhoom series. Yash Raj even pumped in money for Uday's Neil And Nikki and Pyaar Impossible, but by then it was impossible to fix the damage. The last we heard was Uday had announced his retirement as an actor on a social networking site. Kareena - Karisma Kapoor This is Bollywood's first family and it is not surprising if they'd go out of their way to help each other. After Raj Kapoor launched his sons, it was time for the new generation of Kapoors to help out their siblings. So now we see Kareena stepping up for the much-married Karisma when she decided to come back to Bollywood after a good five years. "Karisma is looking better than any other Bollywood heroine," she told Mid-Day making sure she generates publicity for her sister everywhere from red carpets to ramps. Family comes first Abbas Tyrewala cast his wife Pakhi in his film Jhootha Hi Sahi Vashu Bhagnani launched his son Jackie in Kal Kisne Dekha and produced his second film Faltu Mithun helped his son Mahaakshay bag his first film Jimmy through Raj Sippy who is a close family friend Aamir Khan did a small role in Kiran Rao's directorial debut Dhobhi Ghat Katrina Kaif is all set to get her sister Isabella her first Bollywood break Priyanka Chopra's cousin Parineeti Chopra worked as a marketing manager with Yash Raj and has now bagged her first film Ladies V/S Ricky Bahl Courtesy: Mid-Day.com |
